One of the best freeware (free) for working with video is the excellent VirtualDub.

In this tutorial you will need the following software (click the link to download it or download it from another source if you want):

:: VirtualDub MPEG-2

(To work with the VOB files and / or MPEG-2)

:: AC-3 ACM Codec

(This codec works with VirtualDub to decode the audio from VOB files and / or MPEG-2)

Step 1

Unzip the ZIP file to a folder of VirtualDub and AC-3 ACM Codec another.

Step 2

In the folder where you unzipped the AC-3 ACM, right-click on "AC3ACM.inf" and click install.

Step 3

Go to the folder where you unzipped the VirtualDub and open it. Click "VirtualDub.exe"

Step 4

Click the File tab, then click Open video file. Choose the VOB or MPEG-2 you want to open.

Step 5

Click the Video tab, then Compression. Choose which type of compression you will use in the conversion. If you do not choose a compression, the file will be converted - so to speak - in AVI "pure", which is very good to work, but it is huge.

Step 6

Click the Audio tab, then choose Full processing mode.

Step 7

Click the File tab, then Save as AVI. VirtualDub will start the conversion process and create (and save) the AVI file in the folder you specified.
